Local Development Plan - the process

Preparation of draft vision

The preparation of the draft vision was arrived at following a series of workshops held in February and March 2006.

On 27 June 2006 the council resolved that the following Draft Vision Statement be approved as a working Vision for the early stages of plan preparation:

The Development Strategy for Caerphilly county borough will ensure that the needs of all the county borough's residents and visitors are met and the regeneration of our towns, villages and employment centres and the surrounding countryside is delivered in a well-balanced and sustainable manner.

It is important to recognise that as the preparation of the Local Development Plan progresses through the various stages, there will be a need to review the Vision as an integral part of the process to ensure that the Vision reflects the Preferred Strategy for the Development of the county borough.

In light of the development of alternative strategic options and the development of the Preferred Strategy the vision has been modified:

The Development Strategy for the Local Development Plan will capitalise on the strategic location of Caerphilly county borough at the centre of the Capital Network Region. It will ensure that the needs of all the county borough's residents and visitors are met and that the regeneration of our town, villages and employment centres and the surrounding countryside is delivered in a well-balanced and sustainable manner that reflects the specific role and function of individual settlements.
